The cutter is marked with the early "arch" form Stanley trademark and the chip beaker is marked with the "L. Bailey's Patent, 1867" trademark used only on the very earliest Stanley planes. The slot to engage the depth of cut mechanism is higher on the chip breaker of transitional planes owing to the greater thickness of the plane sole.
