The Stone

Read the dimensions before anything else: 7.09 × 7.05 mm. That is four hundredths of a millimetre off a true square. Cutting a square cushion means fighting the rough for symmetry and losing weight doing it, which is why most stones sold as square come out visibly longer one way. This one did not.

The symmetry is not just a specification, it is what you see. An even outline returns light evenly across all four quadrants instead of concentrating flash down a long axis, so the face stays consistently lit as the stone moves. It also sits properly square in a bezel or a four-claw setting, where an oblong stone would read crooked.

Cutting is a mixed style: a brilliant crown over a five-step pavilion, the crown facets returning light while the steps beneath hold the body colour. GFCO graded it Cornflower Blue, with Sri Lankan origin stated on the report.

7.09 by 7.05 millimetres — four hundredths of a millimetre from a perfect square.

Treatment & Clarity

Full Disclosure

The GFCO report records standard heat. Heating is the long-accepted, permanent and stable treatment applied to the large majority of blue sapphire on the market, and it is disclosed here in full. No other treatment is noted on the report.

GFCO does not assign a clarity grade to coloured stones. Under 80× magnification the laboratory recorded natural inclusions consistent with heated stones — the standard signature of the material and part of what identifies it as natural corundum rather than synthetic.

To the eye this sapphire is clean. Nothing registers as an inclusion at normal viewing distance and the crystal stays open right through the table. Inclusions exist under magnification — they do in every natural sapphire — but none of them is doing visible work here.

Every photograph and the video show the actual stone you will receive, shot in natural light without colour correction. Blue sapphire is notoriously difficult to photograph faithfully; the report reading of Cornflower Blue is the reliable reference for colour.
