The Stone

Cornflower blue is the register the trade reserves for a narrow band of Ceylon sapphire — bright and open rather than inky, holding its colour in daylight instead of closing up. GFCO recorded this 1.51 carat cushion in exactly those terms, with Sri Lankan origin stated on the report.

The cutting is a mixed style: a brilliant crown over a five-step pavilion. The crown facets return light to the eye while the steps beneath hold the body colour, which is why a stone cut this way stays saturated in shade and lifts sharply under a lamp. At 6.87 × 6.02 mm it sits comfortably in a solitaire ring or a three-stone setting.

Colour graded under D6500K standard daylight — the condition under which Ceylon blue has always been judged.

Treatment & Clarity

Full Disclosure

The GFCO report records standard heat. Heating is the long-accepted, permanent and stable treatment applied to the large majority of blue sapphire on the market, and it is disclosed here in full. No other treatment is noted on the report.

GFCO does not assign a clarity grade to coloured stones. Under 80× magnification the laboratory recorded natural inclusions consistent with heated stones — normal for the material and part of what identifies it as natural corundum rather than synthetic.

Every photograph and the video show the actual stone you will receive, shot in natural light without colour correction. Blue sapphire is notoriously difficult to photograph faithfully; the report colour reading of Cornflower Blue is the reliable reference.
