Following World War II, Allied forces established displaced persons (DP) camps across Germany to house refugees unable or unwilling to return to their home countries. The Kleinkötz DP camp (located in Bavaria, Germany) housed a significant population of Baltic refugees, including many from Latvia. To preserve their cultural identity, foster community, and sustain themselves, skilled artisans in these camps utilized traditional woodworking and craft skills to create remarkable pieces of folk art from available materials.
