For your consideration is a vintage 2002 Montana Silversmiths Western belt buckle that belonged to my sister, so it has one owner.  As you can see, their names are in the top banner.  It is a beautiful, heavy buckle that features a gold horse. By itself, the buckle weighs 8.4 ounces.  Her husband never wore it.

Though I don't know what this is made of, this is what I found out:

"Montana Silversmiths products are primarily made from solid brass, white metal, or nickel alloy base that is heavily electroplated with 99.9% fine silver or sterling silver.  The gold is a micro-thin layer of 24-karat yellow gold, 14-karat gold, or general gold electroplating applied over a base metal."
