Traditionally, these were used to fish for tomcod through ocean ice - 2 at a time, with string and a lure at the end - the fisherman (or woman) would jig the line to attract the fish. These carved sticks have a fish head and bird/duck heads with grooves in the center for the line. They measure approx 16" long. Very good condition - appear unused
