This badge has been in my collection as a bit of an unknown and only recently I discovered that it is a good quality very scarce sterling silver badge for the Upper Chine Girls School in Shanklin, Isle of Wight.

The badge features a representation of the school’s crest, along with its motto ‘Semper Fidelis’.

The laurel leaf wreath and motto is infilled with green enamel, with the central flower style motif infilled in blue enamel.

The reverse with hinged pin and clasp together with a small silver loop for attaching a safety chain.

The back is simple marked ‘Silver’, which together with the style of catch and pin which suggests 920’s or 1930’s.

Upper Chine School was an all girls boarding school in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

It was founded in 1914 as select finishing school for girls aged 14-19.

1994 / 95 Upper Chine School merged with the Ryde School, and the original building has latterly been used as holiday apartments.

The silver and enamel badge measures 3.5cm across and weighs 9.5g
