An ORIGINAL FRONT KNOB AND REAR HANDLE for a Stanley No. 5 or No. 5 C jack plane by STANLEY. These Type 17 handles were produced in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War when the supply of tropical hardwood, the traditional material for these handles, was in short supply. These ebonized handles have a smooth black finish that was used by Stanley for less than two years, after which the traditional rosewood handles were reintroduced.
