Welcome
to our auction! Many of you know us as longtime collectors and sellers of
antique and vintage Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter holiday
memorabilia, paper ephemera, antique dolls and toys and fine jewelry.
Over the next several months, I will be listing more incredible pieces of
Hallowe'en history from some of our hobby’s most well-respected and
knowledgeable collectors. I am celebrating more than 25 years of finding new
homes for such wonderful treasures on eBay!
This is wonderful example of 1920s German artistry featuring a large crescent
Man in the Moon and a broomed witch. These lifelong friends visit on All Hallows Eve as they have done for more than
100 years.
This die cut is made from thick, heavily embossed cardboard or pressed paper pulp. This
example is very thick and very heavily embossed, and it is in exceptionally
nice condition.
German diecuts from this period were made with either matte finishes or glossy
finishes. This example has a matte finish.
Notice the details here, including Mr. Moon Man’s happy expression and toothy
grin, our witch’s costume decorated with six-pointed stars, and her hat
decorated with stars and a crescent moon. Six-pointed stars also accent the outer
ring.
This is a large decoration measuring 10 ¼” X 10 ¼”. It is embossed Germany at
the bottom.
The exact condition is as follows:
There
is a miniscule crease to the very tip of the base of the broom. There are NO other
bends or creases. There is a tiny bit of surface wear commensurate with this
diecut’s elderly age. I found two very tiny pinholes.
One like it can be seen on page 184 of the outstanding reference book entitled
“Vintage Halloween Collectibles: Third Edition” by esteemed collector, expert
and author Mark B. Ledenbach. Using his relative scarcity index, Mark has
assigned the number “3” for this diecut, which means SCARCE.
Hallowe'en diecuts from this era exemplify the outstanding creativity and
workmanship of the German paper artisans – truly, a lost art. This decoration
would make an ideal acquisition for enthusiasts of authentic vintage and
antique Halloween memorabilia, rare German diecuts, and highly desirable
holiday paper ephemera and wall décor from the Golden Age of Hallowe'en – the
1920s and 1930s.
Enjoy!

Oh, there’ll be spooky doings
When cometh Hallowe’en,
With black cats loudly meowing,
And witches to be seen;
For ‘tis the night when bats careen,
And hoots the hooting owl,
While in the heavy shadows
The gray ghost slyly prowl.
Happy Hallowe’en 2026!
