Rare c.1930/40 Doris Rosenthal Signed Surreal "Dead Gods" Guanajuato, Mexico Print , #3/17 (a very small print run). The print depicts Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico with giant surreal human-like figures in the landscape representing hills/mountain area. Pencil signed "3/17, Dead Gods" and "Doris Rosenthal" along bottom edge.

Doris Patty Rosenthal (1889-1971) was an American painter, illustrator and printmaker. She was born into a prosperous Jewish family in 1889 on a ranch. During the 1910's, she started her career as an artist in Los Angeles. She was known for both landscapes and still lifes, and especially enjoyed painting in Mexico where women and children were her main subjects.  In 1931, she was awarded a fellowship by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to do painting in Mexico for two years. She would then make yearly summer trips to the country, staying in small villages. She would be awarded a second fellowship by the same foundation in 1936. Doris eventually moved permanently to Mexico in 1957 and passed away in Oaxaca in 1971.
