Japanese double sided saw (ryoba nokogiri) handmade by legendary sawsmith 2nd generation Miyano Tetsunosuke (宮野鉄之助).

His saws were meticulously handmade using a sen to shave down the steel body to the correct thickness, while being perfectly flat. The semicircular Miyano family lamination style can be seen where the tang attaches to the ryoba neck (see photos).

Tetsunosuke came from a family of swordsmiths and was one of a very few blacksmiths that could make saws from tamahagane (ball steel). He also worked with white (carbon) steel in the latter part of his career. This blade is believed to be white steel. The tamahagane saws generally sell in the $5k to $10k range. It was in long term storage so there are scratches and minimal surface rust, but the overall condition is excellent (see photos).

Miyano-san was Miki Banshu blacksmith that lived from 1901-1996. In 1938 he was named the second generation Miyano Tetsunosuke. He devoted himself to preserving and using the traditional techniques to produce the highest quality saws. He is considered one of master saw blacksmiths and his pieces are usually only seen in museums or private collections.
