…… When I first saw this “Auto Theft Signal System” I was confused how it works. My friend and I had ideas, but it took the internet to explain how it works. The heavy cast iron device locked to the spoked wheel and hub of a Model T, Model A or similar era car, and the iron point would prevent you from moving the car easily. If a thief still drove away, it would spin with the point hitting the road, leaving a trail or "signal", as it bounced down the road and allowed the owner to follow the trail and recover the vehicle.

Weighing almost 3 pounds this heavy Iron Wheel Lock measures 8 ½” long by 4 1/2” wide by 1 3/8”.

It comes with a large brass label marked, Auto Theft Signal System and a reward of $100 “for arrest and conviction for Grand Larceny for any person operating this car, or tampering with the signal.

It was manufactured by the Security Manufacturing Company with a 1914 patent. … We still have the original key and everything still works smoothly.
