A fascinating antique collection of famous newspapers and cuttings including accounts of the great fire of London, George Washington's death, and the death of Oliver Cromwell.
Included is a copy of the famous news sheet the English Mercurie (which purported to be from 1588 but was later discovered to be a hoax, though still of historical interest) which contains descriptions of Sir Francis Drake and the English fleet fighting the Spanish Armada.
Various copies of other publications, around 11 examples in total.
These papers are believed to be antique facsimile copies of the original legendary newspapers, and were probably issued and collected together in around the 1870s - although the date is uncertain, but they are certainly very old!
They are presented loosely in a rather fragile antique scrapbook folder. From the label on the front, it is believed to have belonged to 'S. Armit'.
A really interesting collection!
