The Keuffel & Esser (K&E) Field Engineer’s Book 361 (often referred to as a "Railroad Field Book") is 

a vintage, leather-bound surveying and engineering notebook. 

Originally manufactured in the early 1900s, it contained squared graph paper for transit notes and was heavily used by civil engineers for railroad surveying, layout, and construction.
