Well, here we have three antique copper saucepans that were found together, which is not the same thing as being a matching set, despite my earlier proposal that we simply call them “a coordinated copper family” and move on.

The largest pan is the only branded piece. Its iron handle is stamped:

The other two pans are unmarked. They were found nested with the larger pan and have a similar old French cookware look, but they are not being represented as À La Ménagère pieces or as part of an original matching set. I did suggest giving them honorary membership, but apparently that is “not how antiques work.”

Approximate measurements:

* Smallest unmarked pan: nearly 5 1/2 inches wide and a little over 3 inches deep

* Medium unmarked pan: just under 6 1/2 inches wide and almost 3 1/2 inches deep

* Largest marked pan: approximately 8 1/4 inches wide and almost 4 inches deep

Measurements do not include the handles.

The pans also carry old stamped initials from previous ownership. The medium pan appears marked R.G., and the larger pan has another set of initials stamped into the copper. These may have identified a household, restaurant, hotel, estate, or institutional kitchen. I recommended contacting every former French cook with those initials, but the research department is currently on a coffee break.

All three pans are being sold as found and show substantial age and use. Expect tarnish, oxidation, scratches, grime, spotting, wear, dents or irregularities, darkened iron handles, and worn or discolored interior lining. Areas of exposed copper may be present inside.

They have not been professionally cleaned, polished, restored, tested, or evaluated for cooking use. They are not represented as currently food-safe or ready for use, and professional inspection and possible retinning may be needed before anyone starts making sauces.
