Not all spring bars are created equal. Most aftermarket watch straps come supplied with basic spring bars to keep the price down.

These are significantly higher quality — offering a fit and finish much closer to the spring bars supplied with genuine luxury watches, and noticeably better than standard non-luxury ones. Ridged design for excellent grip, especially when using spring bar tools or bracelet removal tools.

I have created a dropdown option in this listing specifically to explain the different widths and lengths available. I have done this because both lenghts can be used, but which one you choose may differ depending on what suits your strap wearing habits

Width Options.

A lot of people assume luxury watches always use thicker spring bars but they dont, Rolex Bracelets are commonly 1.5, especially on newer models and jubilee braclets as they apparently give more flex and play and also wear down the holes less (thats the theory anyway!)

  • 1.8mm – Standard for most Omega models and many other luxury watches, particularly in the diver styles. Tudor on BB, Pelagos etc.
  • 1.5mm – Commonly used by Rolex, Tudor, Cartier, Patek, and Omega on their dressier line among many other brands that prefer the thinner profile. This is not always the case on every watch from those brands, but is common enough.

Length Options: (both designed for 20mm lug width watches):

  • 19.5mm – Significantly easier to install and remove. Ideal if you swap straps regularly. (This is the size I personally use daily in the 1.8mm configuration on my Speedmaster, even though I have full professional tooling, simply for the sheer convenience.)
  • 20.5mm – Provides a tighter, more secure fit with that extra 0.5mm of pressure. Best if you want to set and forget for a long time.
Of course as above this would mean the 19.5mm would work on 19mm watches, and the 20.5mm would work on 21mm watches and so on.

Safety Note: Always use proper spring bar tools and exercise caution when installing or removing spring bars to protect your watch. I personally like to pull on the straps slightly once i believe they are in place to make sure the straps are 100% clipped in and spring bars are clicked properly in to place. Just because a strap looks fitted correctly does not mean that it is.
