This is an authentic King Edward VII vintage British Government despatch box, used by senior officials and ministers for transporting confidential papers.

The box is finished in red leather, featuring a gold-embossed Royal Cypher and Crown on the lid indicating its official heritage. The construction is solid and weighty, with a classic brass handle and secure clasp.

Due to the marking on the lid, we can tell this box belonged to a Proffessor Smart, who served on the Royal Commission on Poor Laws which sat between 1905 and 1909.
