Used mixed-brand fiber-optic testing kit containing a Fluke FOM Fiber Optic Meter, Wavetek FSDM850 Fiber Optic Light Source and Wavetek PSDM850 Fiber Optic Power Converter.

The Fluke FOM is designed to convert optical-power measurements into a millivolt output that can be read by a compatible digital multimeter. It supports selectable 850 nm, 1300 nm and 1550 nm wavelength settings and has a marked measurement range of +3 dBm to -50 dBm, with an output of 1 mV per 1 dB.

The Wavetek FSDM850 provides an 850 nm optical test source with High, Mid and Low output selections. The Wavetek PSDM850 provides selectable wavelength settings and converts optical power into a voltage signal for measurement using compatible test equipment.

This type of equipment is useful for checking optical power and evaluating loss in fiber-optic cables and communication links. Fluke documentation states that the FOM is intended to operate with a digital multimeter having millivolt DC capability, standard banana inputs and approximately 10 MΩ input impedance.
