Daniel Lambert (1770–1809) was an English gaoler and animal breeder from Leicester who became internationally known as the heaviest authenticated person recorded during his lifetime. Following the closure of Leicester Gaol, he exhibited himself in London in 1806 before returning to Leicester, where he died in 1809. He remains closely associated with Leicester's history and is commemorated in the Daniel Lambert Gallery at Newarke Houses Museum, Leicester.
This figure was hand made by Jonathan Brookes at Quorn Pottery in 1981 and is individually numbered No. 3. The underside is inscribed "Made especially for Leicestershire Museums", identifying it as a museum-produced example. Another recorded example from the same series is numbered No. 12, confirming these figures formed part of a numbered museum series, although the total production is unknown.
The figure retains its original burgundy and gold lustre decoration together with the impressed Quorn Pottery mark and full hand-written inscriptions to the base. An excellent documented example of Jonathan Brookes' work with direct links to Leicestershire's local history. Displays well.
