Here we have a superb mid century ceramic wild cat by Dutch ceramics company Jema Holland! Jema was founded in 1942 by brothers Jelis and Johan Willem Mager and became known for its highly decorative ceramic animal figures and ornaments. This clearly marked to the underside with the moulded Jema Holland factory mark and model number 125. I am unsure if this is a jaguar or a panther, but it is depicted prowling along a stylised tree branch with its body low, mouth open and long tail curling dramatically around behind it. It is finished in an unusual dark iridescent lustre glaze which changes beautifully between black, blue, green, purple and bronze tones depending on the light. A wonderful interiors piece for any mid century inspired home and perfect for a collector of vintage ceramic wild cats, Jema Holland pottery or simply as an unusual decorative item for the home. It would date to approximately the 1950's–60's. It measures approximately 8 inches by just over 4 inches by 2.75 inches and weighs approximately 350g.
