Primary

Another of those obligatory Hungarian Primgeiger bandleaders in Berlin was the successful Jenoe Fesca ORch on Homocord.

He is actually Willy Metschke, actually one of the hot bandleaders of Weimar Jazz

Metschke appeared on the label of Homophon Co. "Homokord" (at that time still written with "k") under the pseudonym Jeno Fesca, but also under the stage name Arpád Városz. It was found by comparison that these pseudonyms were used in a complementary manner, by recording on 25 cm plates under Arpád Városz, but the 30 cm editions appeared under Jeno Fesca. The company's advertising portrayed these art figures as real and advertised in enthusiastic words about the "flattering warm tone and tight rhythm" of the performances.

Here in a selection from Milloecker Der Bettelstudent with a great violin solo

1&2

12" 78 rpm record

Condition:

EXCELLENT  close to pristine faint scuffs, plays very quiet light hiss

A SUPERB COPY

Metschke appeared on the label of Homophon Co. "Homokord" (at that time still written with "k") under the pseudonym Jeno Fesca, but also under the stage name Arpád Városz. It was found by comparison that these pseudonyms were used in a complementary manner, by recording on 25 cm plates under Arpád Városz, but the 30 cm editions appeared under Jeno Fesca. The company's advertising portrayed these art figures as real and advertised in enthusiastic words about the "flattering warm tone and tight rhythm" of the performances. [1]

Metschke played the violin and conducted contemporary dance bands in Berlin before the First World War, for example in the Libelle dance palace in Berlin, of which homocord labels with this inscription bear witness. These early recordings in 1922 are also called "Kapellmeister Willy Metschke". In the 1920s, in addition to the then usual dance music repertoire with waltzes by Strauß and Waldteufel, there were also "jazzy" recordings by Fescas Kapelle. [2]

As with other record companies, for example with Lindström's "Parlophon" label, it was also customary at Homophon Co. at the time for the artist to write his signature in the still soft recording wax; this was then pressed and the buyer received a “signed” record with the name of his favorite artist. This was also practiced at "Jeno Fesca".

Willy Metschke recorded "Jeno Fesca" in addition to Homokord and VOX until the late 1920s.

After 1930 you could hear him on CRYSTAL records.

A Quick NOTE ON GRADING AND SHIPPING:

As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS.

If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
