Michael Morier's (1938-2008) Burnished Horsehair Pottery

This beautiful set of 3 pots is an early example of this artist's unique style. All three pots are artist signed and dated 1987. They are an extremely rare trio of sister pots.

“The true originator of horsehair pottery was Michael Morier of Belen, New Mexico…he worked on a Navajo reservation in Sanders, Arizona and learned the burnishing technique that would shape the pottery for which he became renowned, horsehair pottery. His pots were thrown on the wheel in many beautiful shapes, hand burnished with agate, removed still hot from the kiln and decorated with horsehair, imprinting crisp lines of black and smoky sweeps of grey carbon on the unglazed pieces. At the height of his career, Michael’s work was featured in 52 galleries across the United States and overseas.”
