archive: The 5.25" tall
vase featuring a raised prancing horse with a standing tall grass pattern, originally
sold under the historical product name "Carol's Sure Win", was first
manufactured as an Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) piece circa 1910 by
Westmoreland Glass in crystal clear. In the late 1920’s Westmoreland sold the
mold to L.E. Smith, who, at that time, was a new fledgling glass company. In
1930 L.E. Smith produced this piece as part of its wildly successful milk glass
line. Production continued through 1940 when it was discontinued and the mold
archived as pattern #20-R. Fast forward 40 some years, the piece was discovered
in a 1930’s L.E. Smith catalog by Cherished Glass Works and acquired for
limited reproduction from approximately 1980 to 1989. These pieces, produced in
amber, blue, or amberina, can be easily identified by the CGW in a heart mark.
