Vehicle Description

1988 Chrysler New Yorker Mark Cross Landau Sedan

For consignment, a 1988 Chrysler New Yorker Mark Cross Landau sedan with a title verified 87,047 actual miles. Prior to our consignor, this was a one owner car, garage kept since new, and between the Landau and Mark Cross options, represents the leather clad top of the line for Chrysler's mid size luxury cruiser.

Exterior
Boxy by today's standards, the elegance of the New Yorker is exemplified up front where hidden headlights flank a central grille, topped by a crystal ornament and framed in chrome that sprouts horizontal wings to become wrap-around trim. The Ice Blue paint is further accentuated by the chrome wheel opening trim, mirrors, and polished window sills. Up top, a silvery blue Landau vinyl top adds elegance and the coveted Mark Cross badge is posted on the brush aluminum trim along with scripted badging. The wire wheel covers on the 14-inch wheels are also special to the Mark Cross edition while the smooth decklid and vertical tail lights are shared across the New Yorker line. Imperfections on this virtual time capsule include minor chips, scratches, and scuffs throughout with a concentration on the front apron.

Interior
This is where the Mark Cross really stands out beginning with what the brochure calls "leather style door trim panels," button tufted and surrounded by simulated burl wood and chrome switchgear including seat adjustments all four doors present cleanly and have a courtesy light of their own. From there, richly appointed bucket seats include tufted leather and padded headrests and the rear seat follows suit, each remaining in excellent condition. Lots of features are provided by the Luxury Equipment Package including the electronic vehicle information center that lights up like an early DOS operated computer screen tucked neatly into a faux wood faceplate. Push buttons control the A/C panel and the AM/FM/Cassette player in the center of the dash while plush blue carpet covers the floor. Above us, the headliner has started to sag and the visors have dimpled, but the finished trunk is in good order.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 3.0 liter SOHC V6, fuel injected and rated at 136 horsepower, mated to an Ultradrive A640 4-speed automatic transmission that propels the front wheel drive car through 2.78 gears. Power steering and power brakes are standard. Visually, the bay is driver quality with typical metal oxidation and some road dust.

Undercarriage
Solid and clean underneath with typical metal oxidation, discoloration and minimal surface rust with one spot of advanced surface rust on a body brace. A single exhaust system includes a stock style muffler and power disc brakes are supplied to all four wheels. The load leveling suspension system includes Macpherson struts in front and a beam axle with coil springs in back.

Drive-Ability
We settle into the soft, deep leather and point the glass hood ornament toward the test loop where the car tracks straight and smooth and delivers what it was built for, a luxurious ride. We note some pulsing upon braking and the A/C is not working, but all other functions, including the myriad of switches on the inside, all operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Rare by today's standards, this relic of the 80's is the perfect example of American manufacturers stepping up to provide as many creature comforts as the much touted foreign cars of the time and succeeding on some level here. This is old enough and uncommon enough to participate in car shows where the once ubiquitous 80's Chryslers rarely tread.
