Chinese Han music, also called the Hakka Music or the Han Strains, is one of the finest genres of Chinese traditional music. It prevails mainly in the areas inhabited by the Hakkas, namely the Eastern part of Guandong China. Chinese Han music has a long history. It is said to have spread to the Southeastern part of the country along with Southward migrations of the dwellers in the central plains during the long historic period from the 9th year of Emperor Jinan's reign (405 A.D.) to around the fall of the Song Dynasty.

This traditional Chinese musical form, also known as Hakka music, focuses on the sustained, sliding drone of stringed instruments combined with high-pitched reeds. After a time, it is clear that the spaces between sounds are as important as the notes themselves. The effect is haunting. ~ Tim Sheridan
