Industrial Textile Spools
Solid Wood Core with Cast Metal Ends
Early to Mid-20th Century, Set of 2
This pair of vintage industrial textile spools, often referred to as mill bobbins, represents the heavy-duty machinery of the mid-century American textile industry. Originally designed to hold large quantities of yarn or thread during high-speed spinning processes, these robust objects have transitioned from functional mill equipment to sought-after pieces of industrial decor, prized for their weathered materials and sculptural forms.
• Solid wood central cores showing natural grain variation and age-appropriate darkening
• Heavy cast metal flange ends with integrated mounting hardware holes for mill machinery
• Authentic mill-worn patina featuring varied surface oxidation and remnants of industrial coatings
• Each spool stands approximately 10 inches tall with a 5 inch diameter flange
Condition: Good vintage condition consistent with heavy industrial mill use. The metal ends exhibit significant surface wear, including paint loss and developed patina. The wooden cores remain structurally sound with minor surface checking and abrasions typical of their age. No major cracks or structural failures are present; the pieces are stable for display or creative reuse.
