This 2025 contemporary original by Robert L. Cawein features his signature modernist graphic style. The piece depicts a stylized King of Spades, masterfully blending mid-century modern (MCM) aesthetics with a bold, contemporary Pop Art flair. The composition follows the traditional mirrored layout of a face card but incorporates a dark, visceral twist by adding bright red blood dripping from the blades of the king's swords. The figure's attire is exceptionally detailed, featuring intricate pointillist multicolored dotwork and classic Greek key (meander) patterns along the borders of the robes. Cawein’s intricate linework and vibrant use of primary reds against deep blacks create a "stained glass" effect that is both energetic and sophisticated. This is a one-of-a-kind (OOAK) painting, not a print or reproduction.
