2004 Chevrolet SSR
For consignment, a 2004 Chevrolet SSR with a title verified 34,472 actual miles. This highly optioned edition includes the 1S8 Preferred Equipment Group which includes things such as chrome plated wheels, a Bose premium sound system, and heated seats.
Exterior
This truck is Smokin Asphalt, Chevrolet's clever name for black and between 2003 and 2006, nearly half of all the 24,206 SSR's left the factory dressed in black. It shines bright here and is accented with a red bowtie on the chrome grille and a graphic double stripe that is one part red and another a sort of marbleized camo with yellow lightning bolts. This unique stripe starts where the front fenders meet the hood line and flow all the way around the tailgate, just after a bold V-shape lands on the rear quarter. Over the cabin, the rounded retractable top creates a streamlined bubble roof fronted by a steeply raked windshield. With the top down, roll bars behind each seat and a windscreen become visible, while a hard tonneau conceals the roof which slides nicely behind the seats. Twin exhaust tips boldly exit under the sculpted rear valance as the tailgate fits vertically and flush to the back, housing the third brake light and on this SSR, a crossed flag emblem. Red calipers are visible through the chrome wheels, 19-inch in front and 20-inch in back with staggered size tires that gives this ride a muscular stance under those wide hips, and each with a mid 2023 date code. Imperfections include some flex cracks under a headlight and a few dings.
Interior
The circular theme continues inside beginning with the door panels with door actuators inside circle trim and round speakers embedded in the molded plastic. Even the safety reflector is round and on this car, SSR door handle wraps add some bling. Ebony leather seats are sporty and supportive and in excellent condition and both occupants enjoy various electric controls including heat with switches below. A fat leather wrapped steering wheel presents to the driver and offers thumb controls on the chromed crossmember, framing three white faced gauges on the panel with a speedometer posting a max of 140 mph. A chrome mid panel trim piece houses the simple A/C controls under a screen that relays info on the AM/FM radio with Bluetooth. An auxiliary triple gauge package is tucked under the dash on the center console just in front of the chromed shifter at your fingertips in a chrome faceplate with a series of toggles, while a padded armrest gives you a place to set your right elbow, trimmed in red stitching. Low pile black carpet is the floor covering here, and in great condition, as you would expect, covered with SSR branded mats. The bed is finished with black carpet and contains a large SSR padded floor covering and a covered spare.
Drivetrain
Looking factory fresh is the 5.3 liter V8 under the rounded hood, fuel injected and rated at 300 horsepower. GM's 4L60E sets the SSR in motion and is a 4-speed automatic sending power to the Torsen differential with 3.73 gears. Power disc brakes are found on all four corners.
Undercarriage
Minimal surface rust, dry conditions and clear knuckles await us underneath. There's even a factory wax pencil mark still visible on this clean underside. The dual exhaust becomes one and goes through a FlowMaster muffler, then splits to exist muscle car style. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and a 5 link with coil springs in back. The underside is so clean, even the Bilstein shocks are spotless and the yellow and blue shine brightly.
Drive-Ability
While the design may be polarizing, there's no getting around the comfortable cabin and capable V8 engine in front of you. With wide, ZR rated tires underneath us, the handling is superb, the tracking is straight, and the truck stops on demand. All functional items, from the blue backlit gauges, to the automatic top, all work flawlessly.
