Vehicle Description

1913 Buick Model 24 25 Series Touring Car

For consignment, a 1913 Model 24 25 Series touring car showing 5,635 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a title exemption. This example has some upgrades, lots of spare parts and an AACA National First Prize in 1991.

Exterior
Metro continues, "The 1913 Buick Model 24 boasted an exterior that exuded charm and confidence". Fact check: true!  Here's a car with a bold, upright stance, drenched in Wine paint underscored by black, as typical for the time, on the fenders, visible suspension, and big canvas top. The grille makes onlookers aware of the brand with a metal cutout on the radiator and the colored logo on the shell, flanked by large headlights, modern turn signals, and backed by a wooden firewall that holds plaques of the car's past adventures and awards. Pewter colored metalwork instead of brass adorns this car and is found on the lamps, windshield frame, side mirrors, and running boards. The 33 inch wooden spoke wheels are painted Wine to match and a spare tire is affixed to the right running board, just in case! Imperfections include areas of chipping and crazing paint on every panel, making it a fine candidate for a repaint back to the maroon, or to the color of your choice.

Interior
Black vinyl serves as the door panels with the rear doors including saddle bag-like storage and all three doors show some age but are fully intact. Inside, robust button tufted black bench seats would be at home in a speakeasy or saloon and provide comfortable places to sit, now featuring seat belts in back and a minor blemish up front. The driver is privy to the handsome, wood rimmed steering wheel with elaborate controls in the center and it fronts a wooden dash with vintage gauges and clock. The floor is made up of metal framed panels and the underside of the vinyl roof shows some age and looseness but will absolutely keep out the sun.

Drivetrain
The engine is an antique feast for the eyes with exposed valve springs, a variety of metals, and a handy oil can. This is a 165.7ci four cylinder, rated at 22.5 horsepower and fueled through a 1-barrel carburetor. The 3-speed manual is a selective sliding gear transmission and it routes power to the rear axle with 4.00 gearing.

Undercarriage
Uniformly black and undeniably vintage underneath, we start with a single exhaust through a stock style muffler that terminates soon after. Mechanical drum brakes are found on rear wheels only and suspension consists of semi elliptical springs. We note some residual oil on the pan and rear differential but overall, the under is clean and solid.

Drive-Ability
A twist of the key and a few dials set then with the push of a starter button this 113 year old Buick came to life. While you won't be winning any races against modern traffic, the car moves along at a good pace. On the functionality front all items worked as they should and I couldn't get enough of the multiple horns/bells to ring. The only thing I was missing was a white flowing ascott and a pair of driving goggles. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

If cars could talk, this rare example, more than 100 years old, would be screaming at the next caretaker to take her to the next level. The bones are all there and with some TLC, you'll have a fantastic show piece. Do nothing and you'll still have an historical piece of Americana.
