If you are in search of a lawn look-alike in the miniature garden, Thymus serpyllum, Elfin Thyme is a great option. This creeping thyme is very compact. In partial shade, it will grow into small hummocks. Some gardeners prefer this hilly effect, but others like this herb to grow flat. For a flat, horizontal appearance, plant it where it receives at least five hours of sun per day.

Elfin Thyme will be available again when the temperatures are moderate. It suffers too much from the heat during transit.
