Hello to all my beautiful backpackers and potential bidders out there! Thank you for checking out my auction!
I bought this bad boy in 2023 intending to thru hike the PCT in 2024. Then I tore my knee. Then I had a kid. With my thru hiking plans on hiatus for the foreseeable future, and my backpacking limited to weekend trips and overnighters, this $600 tent has become overkill. I've used it a combined 9 days over the last two and a half years, so it's getting harder to justify keeping it. And did I mention I had a kid? Luxuries, like having my very own gear closet, are in short supply these days. If you know you know.
This tent weighs 17oz and is a freakin' PALACE. I'm six foot and burly, and I never felt like it wasn't enough space. Plenty of room to spread out, stretch your legs, change clothes, etc..
Reasons to buy my tent (and not that other one you're looking at):
1. Expertly owned and cared for by a seasoned backpacker with multiple long trails under their belt. I take a lot of pride in my equipment, and am equally concerned with its longevity. When not in use, this tent was always stored loosely in an oversize bin - never balled up and crammed into a stuff sack, never smooshed by against heavy or sharp objects. This tent was always wiped down after use. There are no stains, no rips, and no stinks. It's coming from a smoke and pet-free household. Check my feedback as a seller. You'll see multiple remarks about how well packaged items were, how the condition exceeded expectations, etc.. Same thing here folks.
2. This tent is a 2023 model, meaning it has a taller bathtub floor than the tents that came after. This is especially nice for those with long/wide quilts, as it increases your footbox's protection from condensation. This model has a 36" wide floor and a taller bathtub, whereas the new Altaplex tents have a slightly wider 40" floor at the expense of a much shorter bathtub - no bueno if you're expecting anything other than that (mostly) perfect PCT weather.
3. I ordered this tent in 0.8 DCF instead of the more typical 0.5 DCF. I know, I know, it's a whole ounce-and-a-half-ish heavier... What was I thinking?!?!?!?!! Simply put, I was thinking about longevity and puncture/abrasion resistance. 0.8 DCF is just stronger. It's more resistant to stretching, less transparent than 0.5, and it can take a hit. I was vindicated when I saw an Instagram post from Andrew Skurka where several 0.5 DCF tents had gotten shredded by hail on one of his guided Sierra trips.
4. Bidding starts at $69. Nice.
5. FREE SHIPPING
