Vehicle Description

1929 Ford Model A Sport Coupe

For consignment, a 1929 Ford Model A Sport coupe showing 2 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This car has its numbers matching engine and received recent work addressing the ignition system, carburetor, exhaust, and fuel system.

Exterior
This one presents in stunning Balsam Green that is perfectly matched the black base and fenders, all tied together by the matching 21-inch wire wheels. Some fine contrast is provided by the ivory top with graceful black and silver landau bars and the light color of the top is picked up visually by the light yellow pinstripe that adorns the side from the cowl back. Black bumpers, horn, headlamp buckets, and radiator surround keep the exterior color palette intact and a motometer leads the way over a mesh grille. Imperfections include some discoloration of the top, some chipped paint and rusted surface on the hood hinge, scratches on the front fender, chipped paint on the surround, numerous other chips, scratches, and scuffs.

Interior
Tan mohair lines the doors handsomely with hardware that's petite by today's standards and a pleated map pocket on each side. Brown Bedford cord cloth covers the bench seat with nice column stitching, seat belts, and overall great condition. In front, it was all about function over fulfillment where a simple four spoke steering wheel fronts a body colored dash with singular central instrument cluster and floor based shifter and hand brake and all shows a bit of patina. That includes the rubber coating on the floor while the brown vinyl rumble seat with seatbelts, presents in excellent condition.

Drivetrain
Behind the engine covers is the numbers matching 201ci inline four cylinder rated at 40 horsepower and looking every bit of original with earned, untouched surface rust throughout giving a consistent reddish-brown hue in the bay. There's a newer 1-barrel carburetor on board and a 3-speed manual that sends those horses to the rear axle and 3.78 gears. The fuel lines, distributor and cap, switch assembly, battery, and coil wire all replaced during our consignor's ownership. The car retains its 6 volt system.

Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath with typical surface rust and some oil and grease about. The single exhaust runs through a newer, stock style muffler and exits under the car. Transverse leaf springs are employed front and rear and mechanical drum brakes are on all four corners.

Drive-Ability
Just as it's done hundreds or thousands of times before, the 201 starts and propels this car forward, a short distance on to our test loop as we shift through the gears. This car is accommodating in its function and was, of course, a revolutionary improvement over horse drawn carriages. Meanwhile, we note the speedometer, odometer, and trip odometer not working and the driver's window does not roll down all the way. Beyond that, everything works as it should and we step back into 2025 when we return this buggy to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

We can barely keep 1929 Model A's in stock and it's likely this one won't be here long enough to collect a cobweb. It's a fine example of an early Ford and we're loving the unique color disbursement. We know you're out there Model A shoppers, and for this Sport Coupe, operators are standing by!
