Vehicle Description

1947 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible

For consignment, a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe convertible with 259 miles on the clock, but the true miles are unknown. If the car looks familiar, you may have watched Karate Kid a bit too many times. While not the actual car, this one presents in very similar spec configuration as the famous wax on, wax off car.

Exterior
Someone's been waxing on and off, because the single stage Maize Yellow paint shines under our lights and wears stainless trim pieces, prominent over the shoulder line and fenders, like linear jewels. The 16-inch wheels are artfully complex and begin body matched steel wheels which are pinstriped in red, then topped by Ford stamped hubcaps augmented by gleaming beauty rings and wrapped in wide white wall tires. A freight train shaped hood ornament tops a Super Deluxe badge, chrome grille and bumper which provide ornamentation along with the rings around the headlights and marker lights. A slight gap issue on the trunk does not detract from the handsome profile back here and deco stamping of the bumper ends. Imperfections include random scratches, chips, scuffs, tarnish spots and a ding on the stainless, some staining on the tan canvas soft top, and some overzealous touch up at a wheel opening.

Interior
Oxblood grain vinyl covers the door and instantly serves as a striking contrast to our yellow exterior and that same material is used tautly on the split bench up front and bench in back and it's in very nice condition. Tan and gold are the palette for the dash beginning with a beautiful steering wheel with horn ring and yellow Ford center and its main color is used to accent the ribbed metal instrument faceplate while a pair of gauges, really a speedometer and clock, flank the AM radio's speaker in the dash center. Underneath, we have a vintage heater above rubber coated floors with more modern mats on top, and the footwells are lined in oxblood vinyl. The large trunk has some gray plastic panels over a rubber floor and houses a spare.

Drivetrain
Under the hood, a driver quality 239ci flathead V8, rated at 100 horsepower and drinking fuel via a 2-barrel carburetor. It's three on the tree for this one as the manual transmission sends power to 3.54 gears in back.

Undercarriage
Other than some residual oil on the rear differential and transmission bottom, we're going to call it clean underneath with surface rust reserved only for the single exhaust system that flows through a stock style muffler. All four hubs are equipped with drum brakes and suspension consists of transverse leaf springs up front and leaf springs in the back.

Drive-Ability
The car starts just fine but there are no brakes and no brake lights, so we're going to have to test things while running in place. As such, we note the heater blower, radio, and clock are not working but all other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Know a good brake man? That's all you need to give this Miyagi special all it needs to hit the show circuit and Ford gatherings. A well known karate master once said, "he who hesitates, meditates". Well, if this one piques your interest, make like a karate chop and strike while you still have a chance! She's a beauty!
