1966 Ford Mustang Hardtop

For consignment, a 1966 Ford Mustang hardtop showing 64,985 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to an exemption. This one features yellow paint, Centerline wheels, and four wheel disc brakes.

Exterior
Sauterne Gold poly gives way to two stage Yellow which looks great on the car that's profile has been enhanced by the seven spoke 15-inch Centerline wheels wrapped in 195/65R15 with an early 2025 date code. The side body lines terminate at an ornamental three ribbed duct in the quarter panel while out back, it's nothing but iconic design with tail lights that can be mistaken for none other and reverse lights set in the apron. The gas cap on the latch panel breaks up the run of yellow and dual exhaust is in line with the bumperettes. The front is unmistakable as well and ranks high as one of the most popular classic cars in the history of classic cars and rocker panel trim completes the fantastic design. Imperfections include chips throughout, pooled paint on the hood, areas of discoloration, bubbling, evident filler, gap issues, visible rivets on passenger's quarter panel, cracking paint, and areas of under spray.

Interior
Black door panels show more depth and texture than what was originally supplied and look fitting in black materials that include a stitched insert. Inside, bucket seats conform to the black motif with comfort weave inserts bordered by smooth vinyl and both the front and back present in very nice condition. Everything from the steering wheel, instrument cluster, dashboard and vent levers present as original while an updated AM/FM/Cassette radio has been added. A hump houses the Ford T-shifter showing a touch of patina over black loop carpet on the floor. The headliner is tight and intact but shows a dark stain and some broken bits of the windlace trim. Our trunk has a carpet piece while side panels are pop riveted into place on both the left and right.

Drivetrain
Under the hood we have the 289ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the Ford 8" in back with 2.80 gears. A newer radiator is on board and the car has power steering and power brakes. The Mustang branded air cleaner and chrome valve covers dress things up a bit in the bay. There is evidence of welds, metal patching, and pop riveting employed on some of those patches around the unibody rails and shock towers.

Undercarriage
Generally clean underneath with some fresh looking suspension components with CPP coil overs in front and newer leaf springs and Viking shocks in back. The dual exhaust enters an H-pipe, the stock style mufflers on its way to a double rear exit. Four wheel power disc brakes now occupy the corners and dry conditions are found under the engine. We note some areas of rust on a body brace and some panels which appear to have been encapsulated.

Drive-Ability
The 289 comes to life without hesitation and we put the C4 into drive and roll this bright Mustang onto the test loop. The updated suspension works well and is a welcome addition, as are the disc brakes even though the pedal is a bit soft. Plenty of power on board and straight tracking on a car that fully functions with the exception of the horn. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A lot of nice updates on this '66 make it one to consider if you're in the market. A unique color, a clean interior, and a smooth running 289 add to the appeal. Classic Mustangs overwhelmingly find new homes here at the mall, so we encourage speedy action before the sun goes down on this yellow runner!
