Gibson HUMMINGBIRD CS cherry sunburst with hard case 1975 Acoustic Guitar
Description
This is a superb condition vintage 1970s guitar, known for its powerful sound.
The color has faded beautifully, but there are few scratches, and it is in excellent condition.
The HUMMINGBIRD model, produced from 1960, became a popular model due to its striking design and distinctive, powerful sound. It has undergone several model changes and remains a highly sought-after main Gibson model today.
Early models, especially those from 1965, command a significant premium and are now extremely difficult to obtain. A major model change occurred in 1970, with the position marker design becoming square and the bridge shape changing to a regular belly.
A particularly significant change was the internal bracing structure, which adopted the double X bracing unique to this era.
This particular instrument dates from 1975-1976, and its dark cherry sunburst finish is vibrant, with the paintwork still in pristine condition.
The top is spruce, the sides and back are mahogany, and it features a rosewood fingerboard and rosewood bridge.
The tuning pegs are Grover 102N with Gibson Keystone-type knobs. The nickel plating has a nice tarnished look, but they operate smoothly, and tuning should be stress-free.
The guitar has been fitted with the original nut and frets, adjusted, and the neck angle has been corrected. The saddle height is just right, making it easy to play.
The pickguard is original and in excellent condition with no wear on the design.
The sunburst finish has faded slightly, giving it a mellow look, but it's a vibrant cherry sunburst. The paint has a beautiful shine and is almost flawless.
There are some paint marks on the back of the neck near the heel from where a guitar stand was used.
Considering it's a 1970s vintage guitar over 50 years old, it's in remarkably good condition with excellent playability.
The neck has a regular grip with a nut width of approximately 42.5mm.
The truss rod is fully functional and has plenty of adjustment range. The string action is easy to play, with a string tension of 2.4mm at the 6th string and 1.6mm at the 1st string at the 12th fret.
It has a moderate tension, making it easy to play even in the high positions, and is well-balanced.
It produces a slightly hard and crisp tone.
With delicate fingerpicking, it has good articulation and a clear attack, and a beautiful clarity for a Gibson.
Comes with a standard-sized hard case.
