Model Background

The Grand Seiko 6145-8000 is part of the legendary 61GS family, introduced in 1968 and built around Grand Seiko’s 6145 automatic movement. The 61GS line is historically important because it was one of Grand Seiko’s first automatic hi-beat families, running at 36,000 bph, and it helped define the late-1960s shift toward sharper, more modern Grand Seiko case design.

The 6145-8000 is the date-only version of the 61GS lineup, using a 25-jewel automatic movement from Suwa Seikosha. Collectors value these watches for their combination of strong mechanical pedigree, sharp “Grammar of Design” casework, and excellent everyday wearability for a vintage hi-beat Grand Seiko.

This example presents as a very honest, attractive 61GS with the things buyers want to see: a sharp case, clean dial, excellent caseback, strong-running movement, and the added bonus of the original Grand Seiko buckle.
