I believe these were fitted to cars such as Rolls and Bentley Jaguar MG to name but a few.
The lamp measures approx 8" /200mm in diameter.
The wire outlet is part of the lower mounting assembly held to the shell with five substantial rivets. A large thread to enable mounting stands out around 1 1/4" from the bracket.
The glass is ridged inside and perfectly flat on the outside. I believe this will give a flat beam, hence making it a foglamp!.
The words DESMOLITE REGISTERD DESIGN No 852166 are cast in to the glass outer.
The large steel case is finished in a black enamel or similar, but could do with refinishing should one so wish.
It is in perfect condition and not dented or scratched.
A large thumb screw at the base enables the lamp to be taken apart.
The outer chrome surround exhibits an art deco fluted top and is in excellent condition.it is not pitted or marked.
The item is complete with bulb.
The inner reflector and bulb shield is perfect just as new.
I would mark the item 98/100
Part of my late fathers collection of automobilia, this has been in the garage at least sixty years and possibly a lot longer.
A very magnificent thing from another era.
I presume it is used, However it has possibly never been fitted or used.
