Use a controlled release fertilizer as you plant 'Royal Magenta' in a sunny spot. You may give it another feeding mid-season. Keep moist, but do be sure its soil has excellent drainage. Cutting it back to about 1/3 of its size is fine if the stems begin to droop and the plant takes on an open look during the growing season. Other than that, no trimming or deadheading is necessary.
