1967 Chevrolet Camaro Custom Roadster

For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro custom roadster showing 3 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one will stop you in your tracks, as it did us, with its custom features that lend some unique features to an already cool car. The '67 Camaro was a revolutionary car, but this car bucks all trends and marches to its own drum!

Exterior
Simply black, and lots of it, coats this car with a sinister vibe that is adopted by the covered headlights within the black grille outlined with thin bands of silver trim. Smooth panels lack any side trim and fantastic fairings are emitted after chrome roll bars behind the seats. Solid red tail lights mean that reverse lights are moved to the rear valance and flank a pair of center exhaust tips that give this Chevrolet the suggestion of muscle and speed, as if the body, stance, color and wheels didn't already do that. And speaking of wheels, these are 18-inch Budnik wheels holding low profile tires in greatly staggered sizes. Shaved door handles and the deletion of the front bumper add design elements that change the look of the car dramatically. Imperfections include evidence of filler in the body and sanding marks throughout the panels.

Interior
Simple leather door panels in black with streamlined hardware reflect the smooth lines of the exterior followed by Corbeau Racing seats with racing harness between chrome roll bar supports. The tonneau lifts up to reveal the rest of the roll bars wrapped in black cloth, a storage area covered in the same, and the harness anchors. The Budnik steering wheel recalls the outside wheels and leads to a Covan's instrument cluster with bold white faced AutoMeter Phantom gauges with bright red needles. Glossy black covers the main dash, reflecting the shifter in the equally glossy center console. Low pile black carpet finishes the interior and covers the floor.
Drivetrain
Anything this wild on the outside surely has eye candy under the hood and indeed, the consignor stated 509ci V8 is dressed for the party with a glossy black intake, airbrushed with a trio of skulls and flames over polished valve covers. The engine features GMPP aluminum heads and an 850cfm Demon 4-barrel carb, good for 610 horsepower according to our consignor. It's mated to a Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch and power is routed to the Ford 9" in back with 3.89 gears, 31 spline TrueTrac, and an aluminum pinion support. Baer brakes do the deed of stopping this custom in power disc formation on all four wheels. Oh, and there's an adjustable NOS fogger system onboard!

Undercarriage
Super clean underneath and dry underneath, practically show worthy. Dual exhaust runs from headers through FlowMaster mufflers, then out to the twin chrome tips. The base configuration of coil spring and 4 link with coilovers in the back is augmented by Detroit Speed Suspension tubular control arms, and a 2" front drop spindles.

Drive-Ability
We have to admit, a two seat Camaro is pretty cool, and a lowered black one is even better! The car has obvious power underfoot and with its staggered tires, lowered body, and suspension enhancement, handles very well. And it happens to sound amazing! Things we note include the absence of wipers, the headlight doors not opening, the speedometer not working, and the brake lights staying on for a bit after the pedal is released. Beyond that, all functional items operate as they should! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

If you don't like being the center of attention, this might not be the ideal car. But if you like talking to people and answering car questions, this Camaro will be the center of your universe In 1946, the Speed and Mileage Manual published, "The possessor of a custom automobile may well expect stares of awe and admiration wherever he drives, for in car conscious America the supreme style and expensive appearance of a custom built automobile have long been regarded as symbols of individuality, richness, and glamour.". Seventy-nine years later, that's still true.
