Description: Authentic billon antoninianus of Probus struck at Antioch during his first year of reign. This is a rare and desirable variety because the officina mark S between the figures is not recorded in RIC and is absent from Christophe Oliva’s Antioch study. The Restitutor Orbis type celebrates the emperor as the restorer of order following the military crises of the third century. The coin retains original silvering which is uncommon for Antioch issues of this period and greatly enhances eye appeal. Early Probus antoniniani from Eastern mints are actively collected for their style and rare reverse combinations.
Condition: Choice very fine with remaining silvering guaranteed authentic
