Description: Genuine antoninianus of Probus struck early in his reign at Tripolis, celebrating imperial clemency and the harmonious cooperation between the emperor and Jupiter. Tripolis issues are scarcer than the major western mints and are distinguished by their sharp fabric, large flans, and characteristic KA mintmark. The CLEMENTIA TEMP type reflects Probus’ political message of restoring order and divine favor after the instability preceding his accession. The well-rendered radiate portrait and clear mintmark make this an appealing example of the short-lived Tripolis series.
Condition: Very Fine; guaranteed authentic.
