This is the medal “For the Defense of Kyiv” — a state award of the USSR, established to honor participants in the defense of the city of Kyiv during World War II.
On the obverse side of the medal, a group of Soviet soldiers is depicted against the background of a domed building with a flag flying above it. Along the edge is the inscription “For the Defense of Kyiv,” and at the bottom there is a laurel branch symbolizing courage and glory.
On the reverse side, there is a hammer and sickle along with the inscription “For Our Soviet Motherland,” emphasizing the ideological significance of the award.
The medal is attached to a pentagonal mount covered with a light olive ribbon featuring longitudinal red and blue stripes.
