While "Bloodstone" and "Agate" are both members of the Quartz family, a true Bloodstone Agate is actually a bit of a hybrid in the gem world. In its classic form, Bloodstone is a Jasper (opaque). However, when the green base is more translucent or "mossy," it is technically classified as an Agate. Bloodstone, also known as heliotrope, is a deep green variety of chalcedony characterized by vivid red spots caused by iron oxide (hematite). It has a long history as a "martyr's stone," with medieval legends suggesting the red spots represent drops of Christ's blood. 

The "Blood": It still features the signature red spots (Hematite), but they often look like they are floating inside the stone rather than sitting on the surface. 

Symbolism: Modern practitioners associate it with the root chakra, often using it for grounding, physical vitality, and emotional resilience.
