This listing is for various vintage volksmarching medals. Below is a description of each item, as well as any notes regarding the item condition. AVA stands for American Volkssport Association, also known as Americas Walking Club. Volksmarching is a popular non-competitive form of fitness walking that was developed in the 1960's. It was formed by Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, & Austria. All emblems of the countries were placed together on a wreath to form the IVV symbol. There are numerous events all around the world every year which include walking, swimming, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and other approved activities. They give out special lapel pins and medals after completion of the event. Usually after walking a specific amount of kilometers. If you're interested in the medals, please check out the lapel pins we have listed! We have numerous available from several different events.
1. Xenia Ohio commemorative walking medal. Says "City of Hospitality Since 1803". Medal is white and dark blue with some gold as well. It is in the shape of Ohio. Item has never been detached from the original card it was attached to. The neck ribbon is white and dark blue. I believe it was produced by KB specialities Inc, based on the card stock. No notable flaws.
2. October 25th 1987 German Village walkfest walking medal. German Village is a neighborhood located in Columbus, Ohio. Event appears to be centered around Oktoberfest, but walking edition of course. The medal itself is shaped as a couple dancing while dressed in traditional cultural German clothes. Item is in new condition and attached to the original card stock. However, there are some white spots of the neck strap. Ribbon is green.
3. 1987 Wild Columbine IVV AVA Volksmarch medal. Wild Columbine is a flower thats common in midwestern U.S, along the east coast, and southern Canada. This specific flower is also known for attracting humming birds. Doesn't say anywhere where this walking event took place. The flower design itself is very pretty, with shining gold-tone highlights. The ribbon it comes with is yellow and white.
4. Vintage 1988 OWF AVA Caesar Creek participation medal. Caesar Creek is located in south western Ohio. The medal itself is shaped as a Native American. Caesar Creek was inhabited by the Shawnee Native American's during the 18th century. The location actually got it's name from a formerly enslaved man named Caesar, who the Shawnee adopted into their tribe. The Native American represented on the medal, has an androgynous look to them. Unsure if it is a man or woman.
5. Glen County Antioch medal from December 1987. It also says Winter Solstice which is the shortest day and longest night of the year. There are a few rivers in the area, but I'm not exactly sure which river is depicted on the medal. Glen County Nature Preserve is in Green County, Ohio. Comes with green and white ribbon. There is some major discoloration on the back of the medal. The medal itself doesn't look like its been used, so unsure where the discoloration came from.
6. 1979-1989 10th anniversary AVA Volksmarch medal. This event took place in Dayton, Ohio. The back of the medal says Convention Committee. It has an interesting shape to it. Can't find much about this one. No notable flaws.
7. Vintage 1987 Northwest YMCA Volksmarch medal. Has some minor discoloration and marks on the back, item may have came from the manufacturer like this. Says OWF and AVA on the back. Comes with dark purple neck ribbon and is attached to the original card stock.
8. Greenbo Lake, Kentucky medal. This event took place on October 25th 1986. The medal also says "Home of Jesse Stuart" and notes he was an author, teacher, and poet. Jesse Stuart is one of Kentucky's most prolific writers. He build a home for himself on his wife on his 700+ acres. After his death in 1984, he donated all of his acreage to Kentucky State Nature Preserve Committee. I believe its his house on the medal. Ribbon is green and white.
9.Clifton Cliff Cloppers AVA volksmarch participation medal with red ribbon. Clifton is a small historical village located in Ohio. This volksmarch took place in September of 1987. Unused and unworn, still attached to original cardstock. Interesting medal, since its just covered in different things such as cardinals, a flower, ladybug, etc.
10. "Rally Round The Flag" Tipp City, Ohio medal. Tipp City is a city located in Miami County, Ohio. This event took place in 1987, and I assume it was patriotic in nature. Attached to original cardstock. Ribbon is red, white, and blue.
11. Blue River Walking Club volksmarch medal with blue ribbon. Medal itself is a nice dark green with a standing black bear. This event took place on August 27th, 1988. Item has not been detached from the original cardstock. However, it has discoloration on the back which could be from how it was stored or perhaps some kind of defect that took place during production.
12. Red & white ribbon with commemorative medal that says White Valley Wanderers. 1987 volksmarch that took place on November 1st. No notable flaws.
13. Vintage 1987 AVA Volksmarch red and white medal. Says DWF in the center, unsure of what it says for. Has an Old English style to it. 50th event. The back says AVA, 1987, and Xenia.
