1953 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

For consignment, a 1953 Chevrolet 3100 pickup truck showing 83,331 miles, but the true miles are unknown. After coming out of a barn in Harrisburg, this truck was restored by our consignor 25 years ago with efforts to keep it as original as possible.

Exterior
Seacrest Green, here in single stage, is both period correct and quintessentially American classic and when combined with oak planks in the bed, it just looks right. There's also a wood trunk in the bed and notably, the rails are painted green on the bed to solidify the contrasting palette. Chevrolet is emblazoned in white on the tailgate while the tail lights are smoked

Vehicle Description

Chevrolet is emblazoned in white on the tailgate while the tail lights are smoked in appearance above a straight, chrome bumper. Up front, the grille is monochromatically green which makes the red Chevrolet badge pop, along with the headlight rings, clear lens marker lights, and bumper. Fantastic red graphics adorn the hubcaps on the black steel 16-inch wheels wrapped with Tornel tires. The exterior is very clean and we could not find any imperfections.

Interior
Brown upper panels on taupe painted inner doors have just the right amount of patina and we wouldn't touch a thing. Inside, a simple brown vinyl bench seat is in fine shape and faces the patina rich steering wheel, looking very original and fronting the classic dash with original gauges and the paint that surrounds them and runs the width is very nice. Plenty of patina on the firewall too but the floor is coated in a textured rubber mat, all under a soft headliner that shows its age.

Drivetrain
The goal of originality is achieved by the engine bay where we find a definitely used 216.5ci inline six cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor and rated at 92 horsepower. A 3-speed manual on the tree sets the truck into motion and spins 3.55 gears in back. The truck still runs on a six volt system.

Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath with typical surface rust, oil on the pans and rear differential, some gunk and road dirt about, in other words, wonderfully original!. There's oil present on the left side of the engine and it made its way onto the leaf springs and frame on that side. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and a single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler and dumps under the bed, as originally found. Those leaf springs in the front are matched by a pair in the back.

Drive-Ability
We're rooting for this classic truck and sure enough, the inline six comes to life and the three speed takes it around the loop without drama and without issue. It tracks straight and takes us right back to 1953. All functions, and there aren't many for this former work truck, operate as they should and it's off to the truck room for this beauty. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

We have multiple examples of the same make and model. Dozens of Mustangs, Thunderbirds, Camaros and Corvettes fill our Hallowed Halls. But there's something about vintage trucks that raise eyebrows and interest more than any other classic in the house. Here's one that hasn't been modified much yet presents cleanly and completely, and as a result, will likely not be here long. Keep on truckin'!
