2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
For consignment, a 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat with a title verified 1,823 actual miles. This is a one owner car in legendary Plum Crazy, packing what is also legendary, 707 horsepower. Other variants of the Hellcat came later, but this is the OG, the king of the hill, we present to you one that is practically brand new.
Exterior
Iconic design cues from the 70's lend themselves to this bigger bodied version which retains the mean stare which is now augmented by enormous upper and lower intakes, also known as grilles on mere mortal cars. The headlight scoop takes on incoming air and the hood scoop captures any that pass over the nose. Heat extractors on a matte black hood keep things coolish. Black is a great companion to the Plum Crazy Pearl Coat and included on the 20-inch wheels carrying 275/40ZR20's right from the assembly plant. The gas cap, rear wing, rear valance, latch panel trim, and front air dam, all sinister black. We've got a sunroof up above and a cool, shark fin antenna. This low mileage dream is not without some minor imperfections including a chin scrape, a chip in the paint, a small ding, and a scuff on the bumper cover.
Interior
Smooth black door panels combine plastic with Alcantara inserts, leather armrests with white stitching and some storage space below including a cupholder. White stitching also appears on the robust bucket seats in perforated black leather and both front seats are immaculate. Rear 2+2 seating provides some side support on a smaller scale and has a convenient, pull down armrest with a cupholder, but we might recommend holding that drink in your hand for the ride. Fantastically ergonomic, the racy steering wheel is replete with thumb controls and leads to a red backed gauge cluster with a center digital screen. A larger screen occupies the center stack showing the status of your AM/FM/CD radio with navigation, Bluetooth, U-Connect, and XM capabilities along with the broadcast from the rear camera. Program buttons and volume controls are below that along with the A/C panel, all framed in a carbon fiber like finish. The shifter is nicely designed with a polished shaft and leather wrapped ball on top and a leather boot, then the console sweeps back and provides cupholders and storage. Low pile black carpet covers the floor, a charcoal, foam backed headliner is above, and the trunk is cleanly finished with gray cloth panels.
Drivetrain
Perhaps one of the most written about engines in modern automotive journalism, here we have the 6.2 liter supercharged Hemi V8 putting out 707 horsepower and mated to a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual transmission that routes power the rear wheels with 3.70 gears and limited slip. Naturally, power disc brakes at all four wheels and Brembos are called into action. The waffle topped supercharger in the bay is well known by now and the rest of the components fit like puzzle pieces with very little room to spare.
Undercarriage
It has less than 2,000 miles so we expected nothing short of a spotless underside and indeed, that's what we found. This example has a Borla cat back system but purists can relax because the original exhaust comes with the car. Suspension consists of Macpherson struts up front and a multilink with coil springs on the independent rear suspension.
Drive-AbilityYou're enveloped by the seats and there is a cocoon factor that feels safe, supportive, and accommodating. Press the start button and unleash unholy goodness from the Hemi and the interior becomes the control center for a rocket ship, one we feather around the test loop because we understand the potential here. The car does everything well, especially straight lines, and does so with all the modernity a company could serve up in 2016. There's nothing that doesn't work on the purple monster, and we coast her back to the mall to take up a spot under the lights.
