For consignment, a 1987 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 19,514 actual miles. This is a two owner C4 that's been garage kept. More than 300,000 fourth generation Corvettes were produced between 1984 and 1996 and '87 was the average for production with 30,632 produced.
Exterior
Dark Red Metallic drapes the fiberglass panels, and molded plastic crash bumpers on this, a Corvette with the lowest angle windshield rake to this date. This body shares many of the features of the soon to come supercar killer, the ZR1. Hidden headlights, a black belt line black molding, and sloping greenhouse rear glass that flows down from the removable targa style see through roof all work to accentuate the sleek lines. Further investigation reveals body matching integrated bumpers front and rear, and aerodynamic straight fiberglass panels with well minded gaps throughout. Simple badging, and roundish inset tail lights with dual tipped exhaust are seen on the rear of the car. Turbine style "salad shooter" 16-inch alloy wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in blackwall BF Goodrich G-Force Sport rubber with a date code of late 2019.
Interior
Mesmerizing Graphite carpeted mats cover near pristine Graphite carpet that floods the floors and the back trunk area, and it is a deep, deep hue in very good condition. Charcoal and gray houndstooth style cloth inserts with cloth graphite bolster buckets are showing as nearly new with little to no fade and certainly no tears. These buckets flank a black center console/storage unit. This also houses the shifter for the 4-speed automatic transmission, power window toggles, climate control, AM/FM stereo, and a data center with a screen to display information regarding temperatures and other key components of the engine. A digital display is seen in front of the original leather wrapped steering wheel for engine rpm, speed and oil pressure, volts, and fuel range. Controls for the power locks and wipers are on the drivers door along with a wonderful mix of gray plastic, gray carpet and courtesy lamps.
Drivetrain
A 350ci L98 V8 is under the clamshell hood, tuned port injected and rated at 240 horsepower, presenting with general cleanliness and some minor use patina. A 700R4 spec 4-speed manual transmission is attached to the back of the mil sending power to the rear axle has a 3.07 limited slip gear ratio as part of the G92 Performance Axle Ratio. The car recently received a new battery and oil pressure switch.
Undercarriage
Very clean, well maintained, rust free, structurally sound, undercoating intact on floor pans, no real leakage to speak of in engine/transmission area, and frame is unscathed...what more could one ask for!? How about 4 wheel power disc brakes and 4 wheel independent suspension with transverse leaf springs both front and rear. Handling the exhale is the OEM dual exhaust.
Drive-Ability
Stepping back in time with this one and the 350 comes to life without hesitation. Sure, Corvettes have advanced exponentially over the years, but C4's started that movement and this one handles well, exudes good power and torque, and is free of the rattling sometimes associated with C4s. We note the A/C and power antenna are not working and the antilock brake light is on, a common issue with this generation GM. Meanwhile, all other functions including the dash display, work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Every generation that came after can thank the developers of the C4 for setting the brand on an ever impressive trajectory that lives today in the C8.
