Smooth Black Hard Rubber Cap & Barrel w/Gold Trim
Button Filler
Fine Nib with mild flexibility
c. 1935-1938
This listing is for a very rare Montblanc Meisterstück K122 from pre-WWII 12x series. It was produced in Germany between 1935 and 1938 (as documented in the 1938 Montblanc catalogue).
The “K” designation stands for Kurz (short in German), making this the compact, vest pocket or pocket-friendly version of the popular Meisterstück No. 122 model.
The cap top imprint is there...but very faintly marked yet you can make it out, "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK".
The button filling end piece/cap imprint reads, "K 122" and "F"(see pictures).
It has a nice 14k 585 Gold Montblanc Nib, Fine with mild flexibility(see picture).
The nib is 2-tone and marked, "4810 M"(see pictures).
The Montblanc star symbol on the nib has the letter "M" inside(see picture).
Note: The "F" marking on the blind cap was Montblanc's way of denoting nib type during production.
Key Features & Condition Highlights
- Filling System: Classic stoßfüller (push-knob/button filler) mechanism – Montblanc’s innovative pre-piston system that was heavily marketed in the 1930's as superior to ordinary button or piston fillers for its reliability, air-buffer design, and single-press filling without leakage risk.
- Material: Smooth black hard rubber(ebonite) barrel and cap–the premium material used on early Meisterstück pens before the switch to celluloid and later resin.
- Nib: 14k gold #4810 Fine (F) nib, clearly stamped with the famous “4810” (Mont Blanc’s height in meters), the Montblanc star/mountain emblem with “M” inside, and additional Montblanc markings. The nib is smooth, flexible, and standard for pre-war Montblanc.
- Markings: Barrel and blind cap/end cap both stamped “K 122” with “F” for Fine nib designation – exact factory markings confirming authenticity and model.
- Trim & Emblems: Gold-filled clip (classic tie-clip style carried over from the 10x series), single gold band on cap and barrel, and the signature white Montblanc snowcap star emblem on the cap top.
- Design: Flat-top silhouette with elegant proportions – shorter than standard 122 models, perfect for pocket carry while retaining full Meisterstück luxury.
Brief Historical Background
The Meisterstück (“Masterpiece”) line was launched in 1924 and quickly became Montblanc’s flagship luxury series. By the mid-1930s, the 12x series (including this K122) introduced the advanced stoßfüller system while preserving the timeless flat-top design and white star emblem that still define Montblanc today.
Note: These short “K” variants were produced only briefly before World War II disrupted production, making them far rarer than the later piston-filler Meisterstück models. The black hard rubber version is especially prized by collectors for its authentic vintage feel and superb writing performance.
Condition
The overall condition is "Superb". It has been well preserved with crisp edges and looks to have been rarely used...if at all.
There are no cracks, scratches, or teeth marks.
The clip and cap band are clean and well preserved with no brassing. The nib is perfect, very nice(see pictures).
The button filling mechanism is in good working condition.
The color of the hard rubber is consistent with the age of this pen(see pictures).
The cap top imprint is there...but very faintly marked yet you can make it out, "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK".
It writes beautifully with a fine, consistent line and is truly a rare piece for collection.
