1932 Buick 66C Convertible Coupe

For consignment, a 1932 Buick 66C convertible coupe showing 15,096 miles but true miles are unknown. Every car that comes to Classic Auto Mall has a story, and this one includes the poignant journey of a wife completing what her husband couldn't; a full restoration of the car he purchased from the milkman for $35.00. The full story was documented in The Buick Bugle, the magazine for members of the Buick Club of America.

Exterior
After researching colors and paints, our consignor decided on Pinehurst Green which intersects black panels in a sporty design that results in a handsome profile. Up front, there's a lot for the senses to take in; the upright ribs of the radiator, large headlights and fog lights that nearly match the diameter, twin horns, and polished vents on the engine covers. In profile, 18-inch black wire wheels contrast dramatically with the white wall tires and polished center caps and a spare on both sides creates a symmetrical configuration bolstered by wide running boards expertly trimmed in metal and each wearing a textured step. Up top, a beige canvas Haartz soft top is accompanied by a real landau bar, later to appear on cars stylistically, and other than some light staining, the top and its plastic window are in great shape. On the body, crazing is noted throughout on green surfaces, along with chips on both colors, somewhat extensive in places, and cracks and deglazing on a window.

Interior
Black leather door panels include a map pocket and chrome hardware and both present nicely, while both the bench and rumble seat are covered in black as well with a center seam marked by piping. For the driver, we have a good looking, three spoke black steering wheel and a nicely crafted wood faceplate for the gauges and both the gauges and trimmed panel have filigree type corners and accenting with more art deco influence in the center, followed by another wood panel housing a clock. There's another clock in the rear view mirror but that mirror has heavy deglazing. A rubber cover protects the floor and surrounds the shifter and pedals, and all present cleanly.

Drivetrain
Behind the engine covers is a rebuilt 272.6ci inline eight cylinder, rated at 90 horsepower and mated to a 2-barrel carburetor.  t's backed by a 3-speed manual transmission routing power to the rear axle and 4.27 gears. The car retains its 6 volt system.

Undercarriage
The underside is clean and houses a single exhaust system with a stock style muffler, terminating in the back. Mechanical drum brakes are found front and rear and leaf springs are employed at both ends as well.

Drive-Ability
The simple interior is a nice place to be and starting the car requires the typical spark and throttle adjustments of time, but once running, the straight 8 purrs like a kitten as we row the gears onto the test loop. With the top up, there is a cove-like atmosphere but with the top down, the sky's is the literal limit! Other than the clocks and wipers, all functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

We'd wager to say that there are likely less than 200 66C's left from 1932, and probably even fewer road worthy examples. This one clearly illustrates where the term "trunk" came from and with a new paint job, could be a top tier contender at the car show, even those conducted by the BCA! If you've seen enough 1932 Fords to last a lifetime, take a closer look at this rare Buick.
