Southern Pacific A-6 class 4-4-2 3001 at Tracy, California, July 19, 1947. Photographer unknown. Scanned from an 8x10 photographic print owned by Digital Rail Artist.

This engine was built by Baldwin in May, 1907, as an A-3 class. It had a superheater added at Los Angeles on April 25, 1920. It was rebuilt as an A-6 class on August 12, 1927, and renumbered SP 3001 (second). Rebuilding included new cylinders, valve gear, superheater, Worthington #3-BL feedwater heater, and a type C-2 booster with sports cab. It was retired on December 14, 1950, and scrapped at Sacramento on January 19, 1951. - Timothy S. Diebert and Joseph A. This high quality 8 x 10 photo is brand-new and has been originally reproduced from a transparency or negative. It has been printed on glossy photo paper, and sent from a smoke-free environment. Be sure to see my other listings as many railroad photos are available. Thank you!
